Anne Seymour, MS

Since 2014, Anne K. Seymour, M.S., has been the Director of the Welch Medical Library, overseeing library and information services at Johns Hopkins University, including the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health. She holds a faculty appointment at all three health science schools.  She leads an expert team of managers, informationists, and IT/digital systems specialists serving the information needs of, and collaborating with, faculty, researchers, clinicians and students in clinical, basic science and translational research.

Prior to her appointment at Johns Hopkins, she was the associate director of the Biomedical Library at the University of Pennsylvania. In her work at academic healthcare institutions, she has focused on the identification and delivery of quality, evidence-based information at the point of need, using the latest digital systems: in the clinical setting, research lab, and classroom. She has also led the development of research networking and faculty profile database systems to enhance the visibility of researchers, enable collaboration, and measure research impact.

At Johns Hopkins, she has embraced and fostered the informationist model of embedded librarians and direct partnership with users.  Coupled with the high touch/high value informationist model, she has expanded virtual delivery of services and information using the digital design and systems expertise of the Welch team. She has a special interest in global health issues and their relationship to local public health and health disparaties. She has applied her expertise in evidence-based health care and health sciences informatics to research projects and capacity building in the global health arena, especially in resource-limited settings. She is a regular presenter on building and sustaining informationist programs; librarian leadership in healthcare settings, and on global health research and opportunities for librarians.
