Curriculum Support Program
On request of faculty, Welch staff will provide students in courses in the School of Medicine, School of Public Health, and School of Nursing with specialized sessions on the use of databases, Internet resources, or information management tools in support of the instructional goals of that course. Instruction can be given through in-class lectures and demonstrations, hands-on in the library's computer classrooms, or at other Hopkins computer facilities.
The Welch Library maintains course reserve services as well as provide access to independent learning tools such as instructional software and audiovisuals.
Welch faculty also teach term-length credit courses on topics such as biomedical writing and information management.
Examples of curriculum support program activities include:
- Orientation sessions for incoming School of Medicine students
- A literature search practicum for first year medical students as part of the Molecules and Cells course
- Tailored MEDLINE search training as part of the Nursing curriculum
- Specialized lectures and classes on topics such as:
- using bibliographic database management software
- making use of grants and funding resources on the Internet
- use of molecular biology databases on the World Wide Web
- searching databases for topics within specific academic disciplines
