This hands-on course is designed to help students transform their lab results into a workable first draft of a manuscript for a peer-reviewed journal. Class participants are introduced to the entire process of writing a paper, from organizing the raw data to correcting proofs. The students write and revise a first draft of a paper based on their laboratory data and are responsible for reading and making constructive suggestions to improve their classmates' drafts. The instructor schedules individual tutorials to address each student's needs regarding writing style.
Prerequisite. Class is limited to SOM students who are in at least their third year of graduate studies. Class participants must have a writing project underway or have data on which they can base a practice paper. Class size limited to 8 students.
