The Adolf Meyer Library is a full-service library, primarily serving the departments of Psychiatry, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Neuroradiology, and Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine. The library is located in the Adolf Meyer Building, Room 8-149.

Admissions Policy for gaining access to the Meyer Library. Full-time faculty and staff in the departments of Psychiatry, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Neuroradiology, and Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine may use the library after hours. However, item checkout, laser copies, and staff assistance are not available after 5:30 p.m.
Library staff at Meyer answer reference questions, perform computer searches, teach patrons how to use library equipment and facilities, and direct people to information sources. The staff provide instruction on using the Welch Gateway which includes MEDLINE, the JHU Libraries Catalog, and several other databases and resources.
A core collection of psychiatry, neurology, neurosurgery, and anesthesiolgy texts are held at the Meyer Library. The collection includes books, journals, audiovisuals, computer assisted instruction programs, and microcomputer software. Commonly used reference books are located on the far left of the library and do not circulate. Cataloged books with call numbers (yellow labels) are found in the first three rows on the right, with medical journals (filed alphabetically) taking up most of the remaining space. Audiovisuals are located directly across from the Information Desk. New acquisitons are posted on the Web monthly.
The Adolf Meyer Library has two Macintosh and several IBM computers for patron use. The computers are set up to access the Welch Gateway. Selected software is located on the hard disks of the microcomputers. The Meyer Library currently offers education, word processing, telecommunications, spreadsheets, and other types of software. The computers may be reserved for a two-hour period.
Blank disks are sold at a price of $1.50 for a 5.25" and $3.00 for 3.5" floppy disks.
Patrons can check out books and audiovisual materials with a valid Welch library card. Journals do not circulate. Materials can be checked out only between 8:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Circulating materials can be renewed in person, via electronic form, or by calling any of the JHU Horizon Library Circulation desks.
Fines must be paid before the total reaches $20 to prevent loss of borrowing privileges at any JHU Horizon Library. Items more than 24 days overdue are considered lost.

Patrons are responsible for replacing their lost library materials. In addition to the cost of the item, or $75 if cost is unknown, there is a $15 processing fee.
Meyer has two photocopy machines that operate on a cardkey system. Copy cards may be billed through departmental accounts or purchased in the amounts of $1, $5, $10 and $20 from the vending machine in the Meyer and Welch Libraries or other Welch sites.
Document Services provides books and articles regardless of who owns them or where they are located. This free service is available to JHU personnel with current Welch library cards and active Weldoc accounts. Requests must be submitted electronically via Weldoc or PubMed.
Articles will be sent to the desktop electronically and books may be picked up at the Welch Service Center. Books from other JHU libraries (with the exception of the Washington Center and the Montgomery County Center) should not be ordered through Weldoc. There is a separate form for this service.
