Abraham M. Lilienfeld Library

The Lilienfeld Library is a full-service library, primarily serving the Bloomberg School of Public Health. The library is located in Hampton House (624 N. Broadway), on the ninth floor.

If you are registered to use the William H. Welch Medical Library, you may use the Lilienfeld Library to check out books and audiovisual materials. You can also register for a library barcode at the Lilienfeld Library.

Monday - Thursday 8 a.m.- 9 p.m.
Friday 8 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.
Saturday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Sunday 1 p.m. - 7 p.m.

Information and Reference Services

Library staff at the Lilienfeld Library answer reference questions, perform computer searches, teach patrons how to use library equipment and facilities, and direct people to information sources. The staff provide instruction on using electronic resources which include online journals, PubMed, MD-Consult, Journal Citation Reports [JCR], the JHU Libraries Catalog, and many other databases and resources.

All areas of Public Health are covered with a strong emphasis in epidemiology, infectious diseases, health policy and management, the social aspects of health care, and HIV and the AIDS pandemic.

Computing Facilities

The Lilienfeld Library has 6 computers for patron use. Each computer runs the Windows operating system and is internet enabled. The computers are set up for research only and therefore do not include Microsoft Office applications.

Printing

The library's desktop computers are connected to two non-color, laser printers. The library is also home to a networked printer for those connected to the School of Public Health's network wireless.

Circulation Policy

Patrons can check out books and audiovisual materials with a valid Welch library barcode or a card from another JHU Horizon library.

Books 6 weeks 4 renewals
Journals do not circulate  
Audiovisuals 1 week renewable
Reference Texts do not circulate  
Reserve Materials do not circulate  

Renewals

Circulating materials can be renewed in person, online through the catalog, or by calling the Lilienfeld Library.

Overdues

Fines must be paid in a timely manner to prevent loss of borrowing privileges at any JHU Library. Items more than 24 days overdue are considered lost.

Lost Materials

Patrons are responsible for replacing their lost library materials. In addition to the cost of the item, or $75 if cost is unknown, there is a $15 processing fee.

Lilienfeld Library has two photocopy machines and photocopying is free.

Weldoc Document Services

Document Services provides books and articles regardless of who owns them or where they are located. This free service is available to JHU personnel with current Welch library cards and active Weldoc accounts. Requests must be submitted electronically via Weldoc.

Articles will be sent to the desktop electronically and books may be picked up at the Lilienfeld Library as well as other Hopkins Libraries. Books from other JHU libraries (with the exception of the Washington Center and the Montgomery County Center) should not be ordered through Weldoc. There is a separate form for this service.
