Action Planning Committee

The Action Planning Committee is composed of the Director, the Department Heads and the committee chairs. Its purpose is to oversee implementation of Action Plan throughout its life, to monitor and report progress on implementation, to resolve issues arising from implementation, to oversee incorporation of all levels of staff in implementation process, and to direct the updates of the Action Plan. It meets monthly.

Action Planning Task Force

This task force, which met from January through June 2006, created a five-year action plan reflecting the goals and objectives identified and carried out by the staff as a whole, including a strategy to communicate planning, goals, content, progress, and accomplishments.

Assessment Committee

This committee will review the quantitative assessment activities and needs of the Welch Library, will develop a detailed plan to enhance them, and coordinate ongoing data collection and analysis activities related to assessment.

Communications Committee

This committee guides the communication efforts of the Library to its external communities. This includes news, announcements and special information events.

Department Heads Group

This team of senior managers works to strategically guide the operations of the Welch Medical Library. The group is responsible for library management and determines the future course of the programs and services.

Education Planning & Program Development Committee

This committee serves the faculty, fellows, staff and students of the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions. The committee exists to define education and training needs, direct program implementation, evaluate existing programs, and investigate future opportunities for growth and development.

Electronic Resources Collection Development Committee [email]

This team works to expand the number of resources deliverable to the desktop, and to promote use and awareness of these resources in the JHMI community. In order to invest wisely in resources, the committee continuously monitors resource usage and gauges their value to the JHMI community.

Internal Communication Committee

The Internal Communications Committee supports and facilitates access to information about all library initiatives and its mission by providing venues for communication about the library for its staff

Internet Services Committee

This committee guides the development and maintenance of the Library's web site, and develops new Internet services as needed.

Liaison Committee

This committee is responsible for outreach services to the JHMI community. Its primary goal is the formation of partnerships to identify information needs, and to lead development efforts for products and services to meet those needs.

Space Planning Committee

The team works to address both short-term and long-term space planning in the library. The charges include developing recommendations for physical space modifications, service site enhancements, and operational logistics. The work is coordinated with the efforts of the library wide architectural study and master plan.

Staff Development Committee

The mission of this committee is to develop a program with a range of formal and informal activities that stimulate communication, address professional issues, and prepare staff for changes and challenges in the library.

Welch Library Advisory Committees (WLAC)

Two committees, both chaired by the Vice Dean for Education, represent the primary users of the library and are charged with advising the Library Director.

The Welch Library Advisory Committee - Finance includes the Welch Library Director and the Associate Director for Finance and Administration, the Vice Dean for Education, the Dean of University Libraries as well as representatives from the various constituencies served, particularly those with a background in finance and administration. The committee meets twice per year and is charged with:

  • Overseeing annual budget and other fiscal matters
  • Making recommendations concerning library policies, especially substantive changes in services and fees
  • Acting as a sounding board for potential new library initiatives

The Welch Library Advisory Committee - Service includes the Welch Library Director, the Vice Dean for Education, the Director of Library Services at Johns Hopkins Bayview, the Associate Director of Library Services at the Milton S. Eisenhower Library at Homewood, a student from the School of Medicine, as well as high level representatives from the constituencies served.  The committee meets three times per year and is charged with:

  • Making recommendations concerning library policies, especially substantive changes in services and fees
  • Ensuring that the library is providing balanced services across the areas of teaching, research, and patient care
  • Acting as a sounding board for potential new library initiatives
  • Acting as advocates for the library
