The NIH Roadmap and Chemoinformatics
Jeff Loo, NLM 2nd Year Fellow
"The NIH Roadmap" outlines the NIH Roadmap, which is the National Institutes of Health's plan to advance medical research for the 21st century. The NIH has a powerful impact on JHMI research. The JHU School of Medicine tops the list of 121 medical schools that receive funds from the NIH. In 2003, JHU SOM received 967 NIH awards totaling $414,225,650. Studying the NIH Roadmap will help the library understand the changing research and funding opportunities for SOM members. An important component of the NIH Roadmap is interdisciplinary science. "Introduction to Chemoinformatics" introduces chemoinformatics, an emerging interdisciplinary science, for a discussion about the library's role in interdisciplinary research.
