Welch Journal Club

February 7, 2007

Information seeking behaviors of the primary users of Welch Library services
Carrie Iwema, Basic Science Librarian, Public Health and Basic Science Liaison Services

This month's journal club topic covers the information seeking behaviors of the primary users of Welch Library services. Five papers were selected with the intent to promote a discussion of the similarities and differences between the information needs of these broad groups: clinical, basic science, nursing, public health. The 5th paper compares clinical to basic science needs and includes some insights into general liaison services.

Readings:

  • Development and Assessment of Specialized Liaison Librarian Services: Clinical vs. Basic Science in a Veterinary Medicine Setting.
  • Information needs of clinical teams: analysis of questions received by the Clinical Informatics Consult Service.
  • Understanding the Information Needs of Academic Scholars in Agricultural and Biological Sciences.
  • Information-seeking behavior of nursing students and clinical nurses: implications for health sciences librarians.
  • Identifying strategies to improve access to credible and relevant information for public health professionals: a qualitative study.
  • Summary of information seeking behaviors of our users.
